Vancouver Magazine and Western Living

Both publications are owned by Canada Wide Media which is Western Canada's largest independent magazine publisher and digital media company. Both Magazines have been around for over 50 years each influencing Metro Vancouver in different ways. Vancouver Magazine focuses on informing news coverage around Vancouver, including city issues, people, places, events, travel guides, restaurant reviews, etc. While Western Living informs readers about home design, décor, food, wine, travel, etc.

I was an intern where I fact-checked and worked on their SEO while writing articles for their website and online social media accounts. I have here three seasonal stories that I worked on to promote seasonal craft fairs from around western Canada and a guide on restaurants that were serving turkey dinners.

Douglas College

Douglas College is the largest public degree-granting college institution in British Columbia, Canada. Close to 17,000 credit students, 8,500 continuing education students and 4,210 international students are enrolled. I served as one of the Communications Coordinators working in the Marketing and Communications Office. I coordinated internal and external communication efforts for the Marketing and Communications Office. In this role, I used my project management skills to develop campaigns to promote the programs, courses and events at Douglas. I would also create a wide variety of editorial and marketing content for digital and print mediums, wrote and edited news and feature stories, website copy, internal memos, newsletters, speeches, briefing notes, and other documents as required. I also developed and implemented communication efforts using social media to successfully build student engagement online. I wrote the following stories for their website:

Canadian Public Relations Society Vancouver (CPRS)

I was a part of the communications team for CPRS Vancouver, where we brainstormed content for the CPRS Vancouver blog and website. We were a team of volunteers who are passionate about communications and public relations. We were responsible for planning and managing external content for the chapter. Our goal was to provide informative and relevant content for our members through The CPRS Vancouver Blog, website and social media. I was one of the writers and I wrote the following pieces:

Glass City Media

Glass City Media began as an arts, culture and, news blog for Vancouver, B.C. which later evolved into a video production company. I worked as the reporter for their fashion and lifestyle sections, contributed stories from local Vancouver fashion designers, and bloggers, and wrote about current fashion trends. The following pieces were articles I wrote:

Personal blogging

I have enjoyed working on personal passion blogging projects that have ranged from fashion to city news. I enjoy storytelling, especially with content that speaks to me. Glitter and Snap was a collaboration effort with photographer Kayla Isomura, as a look into local fashion tips and tricks while modelling trendy and thrifty clothing. The Richmond Beat Blog was a city news blog where I explored the City of Richmond and its urban issues and city politics from that region. FASHIONEDUP was a blog exploring sustainable fashion aka “eco-fashion” which included interviews and reviews of local fashion shows from in and around the City of Vancouver.

  • Glitter and Snap blogA blog that centered around fashion outfit posts, cheap finds, DIY posts and interviews in and around Vancouver, BC

  • Richmond Beat blogA blog that covered community news and issues from Richmond, BC

  • FASHIONEDUP blogA blog that focused on Eco fashion
