Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Project

Visual branding, design

Visual branding for a mock EDI organization. I wanted to tell the organization's story by invoking elements of racial equality and diversity in a team or alliance. The elements in the photos (the colour, lighting, visual focus and subjects) correspond to the mission values which are: leadership support, social sustainability, and thinking strategically. I used images that depicted diverse groups of people in a way to counter the often stereotypical and negative narrative about diverse groups and to help showcase people of colour, females, and others as leaders. With that said, I wanted to have a minimalist look and felt that using only black and white images would help cement the EDI message. By removing other distracting elements, we are able to hone in on the core message. In addition to that, we felt that the message would be further conveyed by solely including pops of colour only from the logo and/or any pride flag images.

Explanation about logo

The logo represents diversity, inclusion and unity. It was inspired by the idea that we are all one in the same regardless of our background, skin colour and gender – hence the figures having no specific features. We are all humans who inhabit this same Earth. We are all composed of diverse features, yet we are also the same, like a “Mosaic”. In addition, the rainbow colour represents the iconic symbol of the LGBTQ+ community— which aims to celebrate inclusivity, diversity and unity, which brings us full circle (pun intended!)
